Chlorine has become an essential part of our life and is one of the most effective sanitizers known. For the past  hundred years, water disinfection has been effected using chlorine in various forms, ie chlorine gas, calcium hypochlorite, sodium hypochlorite or bleach.

The major disadvantage of using chlorine in these forms can briefly be summarised as follows :

  • Chlorine gas can be deadly, and the handling and storage of this hazardous material creates a wide range of problems – including safety for both people and the environment..
  • Calcium hypochlorite granules or pills continuously increasing cost and inaccurate dosing methods became a serious handicap for retailers and users, especially for the treatment of small water supplies.
  • Sodium hypochlorite or bleach is commercially produced in bulk and supplied only in certain countries. For economic considerations (high transport costs, problems of storage, limited shelf life and cost of  inventory) use of this product is very limited.

The solution to these problems is BioChlor On-site Sodium Hypochlorite Generation. The BioChlor system is a safe and simple electrolytic process for on-site generation of sodium hypochlorite solutions via the electrolysis of salt and water.
